As the battle rages on, Shuyin tries to find out what's going on. He's worried about chen shi, who's been dying, and about liya, who seems to have run out of spiritual energy. Shuyin is worried about the phantom butterflies, too. He thinks they're just popping out of thin air, but Shuyin doesn't want to be scared. He hears a weird sound, and he thinks it's a pipa, or pipa-like creature. He asks Shuyin if he's okay, and Shuyin says he is. He tells Shuyin that after the battle, he was poisoned by a phantom butterfly. He can't remember how he got it, but he knows that his father probably played a role in it, because Shuyin has a knack for medicine and poison.
