It's their first anniversary, and the two of them go for a walk at midnight. On the way, the narrator is worried about his girlfriend, but he doesn't touch her. When he opens the door, he sees her in a room with her back to him. She looks stiff and rigid. The narrator can't figure out what she's doing. He tries to call her name, but she won't answer him. He walks up to her, and his voice is so loud that he's a little scared. He calls her name again, and she still doesn' t answer. He goes back to the room, and he finds her looking at something. She's actually looking at the floor below them. He wants to wake her, but when he touches her shoulder, she suddenly spins around. He's so frightened that he gets up and scolds her. She shrieks loudly, and then she looks even weirder. After a scream, she starts to run around like a madman. She pushes the narrator down, and when she gets up, she scolds him again. He looks at a talisman that someone has placed on the door. He wonders why someone would stick such a thing to that room. He wakes up the next day and takes his girlfriend out of the room.
