The chapter opens with a flashback to the time when the narrator was about twelve years old and his aunt turned him down because he was a "ghost" . The narrator tells us that this story is about a dream he had when he was about twenty-two years old. He woke up to the sound of someone knocking on his door. He opened the door and saw a girl standing at the door. Mr.xia was surprised to see that the girl had lowered her head. He asked her why she was standing there, and she told him that she was going to kill him. She then strangled him with her hands. He didn't know what was going on, so he opened his door and found the girl's face covered in blood. The man outside started yelling at him, but he wouldn't open the door, so the man kicked it open and the narrator showed up. He told the man that he had had a nightmare and that he would give him a chance to " mend his ways" if the man would come clean with him. He also tells the story of how he and a classmate had sworn that they would "spend the rest of our lives together"
