When the monkey finishes his story, he tells us that his father is still worried that he's going back to the forest at night. The forest is near a mountain, so it's dark and there's no light. The old man is freaking out, and the villagers come out to help him. The villagers calm him down, and he gets back to talking to his uncle. When the old man gets to the room, his uncle finds him hiding in a tree. He's afraid that he might be beaten up, or even accused, if he doesn't hide. He turns around and sees two yellow lights on a tree behind him, and they look like eyes of a snake. The snake's eyes are actually human eyes. It's clearly a human-shaped snake, and that's why the old guy's hair is standing on end. It turns out that the snake is actually an old lady dressed in ancient clothes. He can't believe that a human would look at a snake like that.
