It's the middle of the lantern festival, which means that the fishmongers are out fishing. The master of the fishing boat asks the young thief why he's out fishing when the weather is so cold. The young thief tells him that it's because he has a "running nose" , and the man doesn't care about his feelings at all. The fishmonger tells the young man that they're going to load the fish to a ship, and that's when the girl realizes that the man is her hero. She thanks the master for helping her, and he tells her that he grew up without his parents, so he learned to be a thief so he could help the poor. He tells the girl that he'll be a hero like her, but that the master is too proud at the moment to care that much about her. The two men hold hands and wait for their luminous pearl, which turns out to be stolen by the man with the mustache. The boy tells the man that he needs to follow the master's instructions, because the pearl can help them fight against the foreigners. The man is so impressed by the boy that he grabs the pearl and stares at it, thinking that his eyeballs are stuck to it. When the boy tells him to come over and tell the truth, the man gives him two silver coins. He's afraid that the boy will tell the story to others, and so he takes the coins. The canal returns to normal, and a museum has been built.
