Back in the present, Ren tells us that he's having trouble with his grade-school math class. He's holding an hourglass, which can "reverse time" . He wants to use it to look at other students' exam papers, but the hourglass only allows him to do so for a few minutes at a time. He runs out of time, and he can't even find the toilet. He gives up on the exam, and says he'll either fail it or do something meaningful with his life. There's still time for Ren to submit his work to a writing competition.
