"A Mountain Man" begins with a soliloquy by a young man named "dao mo" , who tells his friend "xiang li" that he'll let "him off the hook" if they play a manly game of chess. The young man asks if they're going to play literature or chess, and the young man says he's going to go with "fair and manly" because he doesn't understand the difference between "battles of men" and "gentlemanly games" . He then asks if "fei lan" actually likes him, and he says that's not true, because he hit him in the face with the chess piece. He's here to teach "him" how to play the game, and "he's actually here for fei lan," not because he "hit him his face" with the piece. "Why are you so damn-hearted?" he asks.
