In this chapter, we learn that many schools in China allow students to return home for lunch but that they also finish later. This is because many of the students have changed their clothes and started eating. The girl asks her brother why he hasn't returned yet. He tells her that he has started eating and has even changed his clothes. She asks him if he can remember the wandering spirits that have appeared around his head. He says that he can't remember them because they're called "wandering spirits" and are formed "after living things die" . He asks his sister if she can shut her mouth and shut her eyes. She says that she's able to see wandering spirits. He then asks her if another one had appeared around her head. She tells him that she can see them, too, but she doesn't know how to explain them. He also asks her to stop lying to herself. He's not like her, he says, because he's unwilling.
