In this chapter, we are introduced to the siblings of a mountain man. We learn that they were orphaned when they were six and five years old, and were forced to live in the mountains with their parents because they were so poor. The father was an old geezer, and the mother was a single mother. The family was so poor that their parents could only choose between them and their younger sister, and so they were forced into the mountains, where they lived for the rest of their lives. The young man, named dao mo, tells us that he was abandoned by his parents when he was six, and that he is now a disciple of his father. He explains that his parents abducted him at the tender age of six when he followed his father to the mountains. Dao mo tells the young man that he will teach him how to use a powerful talisman called the "taloned thunder" to summon his master.
