About This Chapter
The blacksmith tells the captain that his lance has pierced the armor, and that his work is getting better. He says that the only thing he cares about is swinging the hammer, which he never had. The captain says that he's the only person who still uses his lance weapons, and yet he still intends to kill him. The blacksmith says that his gun has a second star barrel, which means that it's loaded with a lot of bullets, which will kill the enemy. He also says that if the bullets work on the enemy, they'll work on him as well. He thanks the captain for the bed, which was very comfortable, and thanks the friar for taking care of his gun, which is a good gun, he says. He adds that Cain came to see him a while back, and he told him that he was living how he wanted, but he left. He hopes that the captain can show him a time when he can use his hammer instead of weapons, because then he'll be able to make spades instead of swords.
