After three days, the northerners have abandoned their camp. They have found bloodstains on the ground and bent guns. They call the soldiers "enhanced soldiers" . They're even bigger and stronger than they were before, and they're called "Om yazdozh powers" , which means "like those of gods." The narrator says that this is proof that "righteousness" is on the side of the government. The narrator thanks Elaine for saving his life twice, and says that he's glad that she's back. He says he'll never waste her life again, and he thanks her for saving him. Soon, plans are advanced to produce "incarnates" in earnest at Ecole. They say that only a few people in the world actually get to become such creatures, and the narrator wants to try it himself. Elaine says it's time for him to leave.
