In this chapter, we learn that the holy virgin is being held captive in the fortress of Sunwinston. She has come to see if she can explain what has happened to her. She tells us that she has been working with her incarnates to settle the land and build cities so that they might prosper in the future. She explains that the war had been supposed to be over by now, but that the incarnate powers had brought the war to a halt. The peace brought the North and South back to their former positions. The holy virgin says that this is why she is going to attack New Fort. She says that the living must now live to the end, which leaves them only one outcome. It was bound to happen to this, even without her leadership. She also says that her power is not enough to solve all the problems in the world. She points out that it was her voice that guided her to create the souls, but she had a certain emotion that prevented her from achieving their essence. She carried out the project to save the life of her husband, but it was too late.
