In this chapter, the doppelgnger explains that he is a monster who has been created to give birth to monstrosities. After the war, he wanted to die, separated from his body, but the monster was the last one to come out "right" . He is a failure, he says, because he was born to turn people against him. He says he took the monster to live out his last moments as a god, and that was the most beautiful form he has ever known.
