In this chapter, we learn that the virgin is being held captive in the country. She is not allowed to eat or drink, but she is allowed to laugh at the country girl who is ashamed of her own ignorance. The country girl tells the virgin that the commotion in the town was not a cause for concern, but that she should have seen the people of the land before it got too cold. The virgin tells the girl that she is waiting for her husband to come for her, and that he will not be there any time soon. The girl tells her that she has time to think about the situation, and to make the right decision. She says that she will trust in the virgin's blood to find the answer to the question of whether or not she should go with the virgin on her journey.
