About This Chapter
The next morning, the Governess and her men discuss what they've done. They've killed a bunch of enemy soldiers, and now they're going to have to kill a bunch more to stop the Vols. The Governess wants to know what's going on, but she can't figure out what the heck is going on. She's not sure what the enemy's plan is, and she doesn't know if they'll be able to stop him. She thinks that if they kill him, he'll just go back to his hiding place. She wonders if he's just avoiding people, but he hasn't said anything about it. He's never talked about what he wants or needs, and he'd never said anything that would make him want to do something. The railroad is a big deal, he says, because it carries people all over the world, and it's the only thing that keeps people from going back to their hiding places. He wonders if they can use the railroad to make him turn around and change his mind. He thinks that's a good idea, and wonders if there's anything he can do to make that happen
