The chapter opens with a soliloquy by Hu, in which he laments the fact that he has lost so many people to the evil of the gods. He tells his brothers that he will not let them confront the heaven unless they find a way to eliminate the god. He asks his brothers to hide their ears and claws so that no one will see their last act.
