The demon asks the old man if he would like to eat some dumplings. The old man says he would, but he doesn't want to eat too much because he's planning on practicing the heavenly demon's technique. He says he'll have to stay in seclusion for 80 years before he can practice it. The demon tells him that the dumplings are plumper than his own, and they have more personality. He asks if he'd like to return to the mortal world to celebrate a flower festival, a qixi festival, and a mid-autumn festival, but that he won't be old enough to remember him by then. He tells him he has a mother charm and a child charm in his hand. The child charm is for him to put in his heart. The mother charm is to burn red if he lies, and it's made up of a "if you lie . . if the flame is really necessary ." The demon says this is a conversation, not a conversation. He's just acting like he knows he can't help him. The truth is, the demon is about to do something he hasn't done before, and that's his duty to help him, too.
