About This Chapter
The narrator begins by telling the young woman that she looks like a schoolgirl. He tells her that he's going to return in an hour, and that she's a complete amateur. He says that he was at an exhibition and was bored, but that he doesn't want her to be rude. The young woman says that she and her friend tsukimi made a dress together and that they're going to show it at a fashion show later that afternoon. The narrator says that everyone is welcome to come and show off their creations. He also says that his father has called all of the young people to an emergency meeting to discuss the tax hike bill. He explains that everyone in white shirts has come back to the square building because the president of the apparel company, R.Z.P.V., has been focusing on monotone designs. He adds that he hates doing anything half-way, because only the president can enter a special space where only those who are approved by the president are allowed in. He then tells the woman that he has always loved wearing the shirt, which is made of ultra-rare fabric he bought up from a dead stockyard. He asks her how much it costs to make it, and she says that it'll be a waste of her time to think of it. He goes on to say that there's something wrong with the world for it to not be made in England, where there are so many people who can afford to buy expensive clothes.
