Princess Jellyfish

When the narrator is a child, his mother takes her to an aquarium where she sees jellyfish. She tells him that girls can become beautiful princesses if they grow up, but that it's "maddening" to go there alone on weekends. When she returns home, she finds that her mother has returned from a nun's retreat. The narrator laments that even her love of jellyfish can't carry her through the den. She's not sure if she'll be able to go back tomorrow or not, but she does lead a "fun life" at the apartment building where she lives with a friend. The apartment building doesn't have any boyfriends, so the narrator has a nickname for herself: "tsukimi." She tells her mom that she's going to make her a white dress when she gets married, and that the last place she ever went with her mom was to the jellyfish aquarium. She says that she saw a spotted jelly there, too, and it was so beautiful that she was "completely entranced." The narrator says that the spotted jelly has a "m - moon jelly" in it, which means that it is going to die soon.
