The Governess and the Governess's daughter, Clara, arrive at the theater where the play is to be presented. Clara is upset because she has not been able to attend the performance of the play she has been promised. She tells Clara that she will not be able to go to the performance because she is pregnant. Clara, however, is determined to attend because she wants to see the play.
