About This Chapter
The chapter opens with the narrator's mother, who tells her daughter that she never dreamed that she'd be out in public in such a beautiful dress. She tells her that she left a magazine on the back seat of the car, and that her glasses are not good enough to see without them. The narrator then asks her if she can see anything without them, and the mother replies that she can't, because she's wearing glasses. She then asks if her daughter's glasses are going to last long enough to wear on her first date, and she says that they're not. The mother then asks about her vision, and her daughter replies that it took her a while to get to the entrance of the restaurant. She says that she doesn't know her daughter at all, but that she thinks he's a friend of kurano's. She asks if he drinks wine, and he replies that he'd never thought of her as a friend. The mom then asks whether she can have a non-alcoholic mojito, and when the girl says yes, the mom says she'll have a chef's plate for dinner. She's so nervous that she might vomit, so she asks the girl if she has a drink. The girl says she does, and then the mom asks if the girl went out with her friends during the "yakitori time" , which is the time of the day when the food is prepared. The woman says that the girl didn't want to wear a cheap costume for the protest, and so she dressed up in a cheap outfit. She goes on to say that the food looks good, so the girl must be a fan of the food. Then she asks about the girl's reaction to the food, saying that she was afraid to eat the food because it was black, but now she
