In this short scene, we are introduced to a number of characters, each of whom is an important figure in the story. The first person we meet is Alexa, who is the artistic director of a company called Echo. She tells Alexa that she has been fired from her job at the company, but that she is still its artistic director. Alexa tells her that she hopes that she will be able to stay on with the company because she cares about the people who work for it. She also tells Alexa about her engagement with Brain, and asks him if he would like to be her boyfriend. He says that it is not time for him to celebrate, since they have not publicly dissolved their engagement.
