The chapter opens with a flashback to the time of the fire festival, when Hirohito and his family were killed. The flashback shows that the three of them were killed during a funeral for the family, and that Hiroshito's uncle, the priest, was present at the funeral. The priest, however, was not present. As the flashback continues, the audience learns that the priest's name is Hiroyuki, and he is the son of the late Hiroyuki's father, who was killed during the same fire festival. As a result of his father's death, Hiroshino has been forbidden to attend the festival, which is to be held the following day.
