About This Chapter
The coach and his assistant, Futami San, head coach of the Tenjiku High School boys' basketball team, are having a drink at a local bar. The coach asks the assistant if he's been waiting long, and the coach replies that he hasn't been waiting at all. He says that he used to be a big fan of the other team's players, but that they've gotten better as the years have gone by. He wants to know how they're going to handle the challenge of playing a team from another school, and he asks them to play them first. He's got a mutual friend, Haijima, who's also a coach at the school, so he asks Haijima if he can think of another school that's as good as the one he works for. Haijima says he'll look into it, but the coach says he can't think of anything better than Haijima's school. The two men talk about how important it is to keep your students focused on the task at hand, and they both agree that Haijima is the best coach in town. The other coach says that if they stick with him, they'll be loyal to him, and that they won't have to worry about what might happen in the future.
