About This Chapter
The narrator and his companions are on their way to the high school where they're going to play. They're about 39 miles away from the opponent, and they can't help but wonder how far they'll be able to get to the hotel. The narrator tells us that the school isn't exactly known for its manners, and that the third year in a row was especially poorly. He asks the narrator to show them to their rooms, but the narrator doesn't want to, because he's worried about the kids' manners. He tells the narrator that the air is cooler out here, and the kids are running catch-pass drills. He also tells him that the opponent today is from a school called Tenjiku Technical High School from Osaka, which is a very good school. The boys have been working hard all day, but they haven't cleared the field yet. The captain of the team that beat them in the last game is going to win, the narrator tells him, and he needs to rest.
