The chapter opens with the entrance ceremony of a new rugby club. The club is not meeting today, so the captain of the club, i.e. sekizan, decides to take part in the ceremony himself. He tells the other players that he is not joining the club because he is too tall, but because he wants to learn the technique of "tackling" . He also tells them that he was scared of them at first, since they are so big, but they are now very nice. The captain tells i.washimizu that he has heard about the incident in middle school when a teacher invited him back to the school because he was good at the sport. He says that he will not run away from the ceremony. The other players are impressed by the captain's enthusiasm.
