About This Chapter
The next morning, the men prepare to leave for their next deployment. The Second Lieutenant tells his men that they have only a few hours before they must return to their assigned positions. He tells them that he will take charge of c1 and c2 and that the other soldiers will not be working for their regiment. He also tells the Second Lieutenant that they will have lunch in ten minutes and leave the next day. The Lieutenant tells the First Lieutenant that he is not bothered by the excitement of the previous day because he is no longer a child and he can read the lines between the lines better now. The First Lieutenant is surprised to see the Lieutenant fiddling with his camera. He asks the Lieutenant if he has gotten used to changing the focus on his pictures. He says that it is still difficult for him to adjust the focus. He explains that he has to roll the shutter back after he has taken a picture because he does not have enough time to take a picture of a landscape. He is not good at taking pictures of portraits anyway. He wonders if he and Mina will meet someday and says that at least he can have a picture before he gives up fighting. He realizes that the enemy has fired a flare at them and that they might even attack the rear command. He worries that Mina will always be by his side.
