About This Chapter
The next morning, the lieutenant tells his men that he's going to let the woman go. He's worried that she'll get hurt again, so he'll send her back to the rear. The lieutenant tells the men to get ready to go. It's been a little over a year since the war started, and the regiment has been ordered to join forces with other divisions to break through the enemy's defensive lines. As the men prepare to move out, the first sergeant tells them to sniff the place, because it's crawling with snakes. The first sergeant says that he never thought he'd see snakes like this, not all reptiles were snakes, and not all snakes are red. He asks the medical officer if the wound is serious. The medical officer says that the wound isn't serious, so the lieutenant should just keep his tail off the front lines and not worry about it.
