About This Chapter
The narrator introduces us to Heidirussell, a reporter who is participating in an operation with permission from his regiment, the 707th Regiment. The narrator asks him to confirm that he is a reporter with the national line and that he has his business card with him. The sergeant interrupts him and tells him that he's a dog beast and has scars on his ear and mouth. He also tells the narrator that he blocked the Volks' tunnel from the jibell line the last time he saw him. He says that he wants to express his sincerest gratitude to him for his courage. He then asks the narrator to take a photograph of him in this "crazy battlefield." The narrator says that the war should have been started sooner and that people should have looked for a better way of life as much as they could. He adds that even though humans are able to take on the form of animals, they are still human beings by nature. He asks the sergeant why he didn't give him the medal immediately. He thinks that the medal is one of the "rebel senior officers" that are awarded to reptile senior officers. He goes on to say that he can deal with the situation himself. He wonders if the sergeant has said that she'll be a noncommissioned officer.
