About This Chapter
The chapter opens with a flashback to a time when the two of them were young, and the narrator recounts the events that led up to their meeting with Dr. Bledsoe. When they first met, the narrator recalls, the doctor told the two that they were reckless, but that they had become more reckless and dangerous since they had met the doctor. The narrator tells the story of how he and the doctor fell in love, and how the doctor warned the two not to get too close to each other. The doctor warned them not to do anything that would endanger their health, and they agreed to abide by the doctor's advice. The two men are now friends, and Dr. Norton has become a trusted advisor to the two men. The men discuss how they have come to know each other better, and Norton tells the men that he has found out that they are no longer in a relationship. He tells them that he is worried about their relationship, but they are not in a romantic relationship. They talk about how they were once friends, but since they have become friends, they have not spoken to one another.
