About This Chapter
The lieutenant tries to get the captain out of the way, but the captain refuses to listen. The lieutenant tells the captain to go to the medical officer and the lieutenant to the lieutenant's doctor. The captain tries to convince the lieutenant that he's fine, and the captain tells him to leave him alone. When the lieutenant asks if he can just let someone who collapsed on the ground leave, the captain says that he can't, because he opened up his wounds again. He says that if the bomb hadn't been dropped on him, he would've been killed. He also says that the lieutenant is trying to talk about his dead friends, and that if they weren't dead, the lieutenant wouldn't have been able to save him. He adds that the bomb would have killed the captain and that the captain was just doing what he wanted to do, which is to save the lieutenant. The two of them agree that they can get along in this "living hell."
