Crunch and the rest of the troops are bound together by a sense of honor and justice, and they never doubted that they would win the war. Crunch is surprised to find that his little dog is making him experience new things, and he wonders how he can stay a doctor like this. He tells his dog that his wound hurts, and the dog is upset that he is being interrupted midway through the battle. He teases the dog about being interrupted, and she tells him that she will stop teasing him if he stops talking as if he is playing with her. Crunch says that if he receives any more warnings he may be sent back to the front lines. He says that thanks to him, he is able to stay in the back and that he supports the troops by his own will. He asks why the other soldiers in his squadron also volunteer to go out and fight if he does not protect them. The dog says that it is fine if you do not protect the troops, but it is also laughable that the soldiers come in and talk constantly about justice. He calls the war a "whoosh take cover," and the soldiers should go around and kill the enemy.
