In this chapter, we are introduced to the main character, a young man named Lan Xuanyu, who is in love with a young woman named Qianqiu. He is also the boyfriend of the young woman's teacher, a man named Yin tianfan, also known as "the elusive fox." The two of them are lovers, and the young man has learned a great deal from the teacher, including the fact that the girl is a flirt, and that she has a devious nature. The young man, however, does not want to be associated with the girl, because he is afraid that she will kill him if he tries to get close to her. He tells the girl that he will stay with his mother, a woman named Nan, until he can get away from her. When the girl realizes that he is not going to be able to get away, she begins to beat him, and he cries out for help.
