The scene opens with Ming's brother, Mr. wang, asking why Ming is with his brother-in-law, the actor, yiming. Ming is upset that his brother is in love with another man, and he blames himself for the break-up between him and his brother. He tells Ming that he is going to tear up the marriage certificate Ming has forged, and Ming says that he will have to defend his love for Ming. Ming then tells wang that the police have come to arrest him for faking a marriage certificate. He says that Ming sent him to America to "have fun" and that Ming wanted him to come back to China to get the certificate. Ming says he is getting back to his work, and that he can finally wait for the "truth" to come out. He compares his acting to a short story, which is the shortest in the history of the world. He also says that the rumors that Ming is an actor are not true because Ming does not allow him to smoke in the men's room of the restaurant where he works.
