About This Chapter
Outside the capital of Suyang country, a buddhist monk named Amitabha sends a buddha to the temple of the Xifo sect. The buddha tells the monk that the two patrons of the temple have paid for the repair of the golden statue of the buddha. He tells the buddha that he has to deal with the problem because the buddhists are greedy for wealth, fame, food, sleep, and so on. He says that he is afraid that the monk is a disciple of Bo Xun, the demon king. He asks if the monk has brought the offerings of the Buddha to the Buddha, and the monk replies that it is for him, not for him. He then asks if he has failed to build the Buddha's foundation, and he says he will not be ashamed of such actions. The monk asks if this is the book that he promised him, the book of the foundation of earlier times. It is the same book as the one he had mentioned earlier. He also says that the monks are resting in an inn, and they will come back tomorrow. Master Xinde says that they are all right, and that they have been rescued by the passing cultivator. He adds that the drought in the country is even more strange, because even if the country does not have a cultivator, they still have the ability to borrow people from them. He wants to continue his investigation, and asks the monk to come with him tomorrow.
