About This Chapter
The next morning, Hirokazu and Urtahashi return to their hiding place. Utahashi asks if they can have some fresh vegetables to share with Hiro, who is returning from a trip to the seashore. They tell him that they are not welcome in their house, but that they will leave soon. Hirokazuma asks if he is still in love with him, and he replies that he is not. He says that he has always wanted to ask why he took the job, and that he had always wanted a chance to speak out against the government. The Govern ment has not yet killed him, he says, and they will spare his life if he does his job in the army. He adds that the Govern has pardoned him because his crew has left the country, and now that they have left, they will have a better chance of winning the war.
