The next morning, the Prefectural Police's Chief Senior Superintendent arrives at the scene of the crime. He tells the Chief Senior that the crime was committed by a man named "Zero Four," who had stolen a gun belonging to one of the police officers. The Chief Senior tells him that the man was killed by the other officers, who mistook him for a wanted man. The Prefectural Chief tells him to block the officer who stole the gun from zero four so that he will not be able to pursue the man again. He also tells him not to worry about what the next move will be, as he is the one who ordered the break-in at the police station. He says that the look on the man's face is the same as it always is when he has known Sawazaki for a long time. He goes to see the two officers and tells them that he has been in the hospital since the previous day. He asks them to bring him a change of clothes, and they do so. He is grateful to them for their kind words, and says that he is sure that the incident was caused by the devil. He adds that if he had not realized it, he would have killed the officers even faster.
