About This Chapter
The chapter opens with the narrator running away because he wants to see the stars. He's worried that his wife isn't feeling well. The narrator tells us that there are 61 cases in which a doctor has been asked to give testimony in favor of a woman who has been raped by a man who is half-devil and half-human. In these cases, the devil has killed the victim and taken the victim into custody. He tells the narrator that he's just there to teach someone how to "get used to blood" . He doesn't know what to do with his life after this. He says he'll knock his head in if he tries to talk to him again. The chapter ends with a discussion of the sky, which the narrator says is an endless "space that spreads above the earth." The narrator says that his card has been stolen, and that the key chain has to go back home to pick it up. He asks the narrator to accompany him back to the underground hospital where he came from. He wants to know when the hospital will open so that he can pay the rent with his body.
