In this chapter, we learn more about Roxane's past. We learn that she was the sister of a young man named "roy" who was a member of an underground organization that was responsible for the deaths of thousands of people during the civil war. Roxane tells us that she and her sister escaped from the previous government's research institute, where they met "the mentally distorted urchin," who killed two of the partners of the underground organization. The two women formed an alliance against the former government and destroyed the research institute.
