"Sweet marks bite" , the narrator tells us, is the first time he's heard anyone say that they're united because of their marriage. He's also the first person to say that he doesn't think they'll be able to get along since they've been married for so long. He says that he thought it would be a waste of time to obey his brother's wishes, and that he didn't really expect his brother to go so far as to do what he did. He asks his father what he thinks of the marriage, and his father says that it's a good thing that the marriage has happened, because it'll make things easier for them. He also says that they caught a blood-hunter disguised as a servant in their house, which means that other families might also be caught in the same trap. He tells us that they were entrusted with the task by the Senate to investigate the "blood-hunter humph" . The narrator then asks where his father is going, and he asks him why he showed up at dinner with the chancellor's butler, who he knows is the same butler who took him away by force. He wants to know what kind of relationship they have now, and the narrator says that she doesn' t know, but that she's sure that there's one thing she can't give up. She says that even if she thinks that she and her brother are in a good position, she'd still have to face the reality of their relationship. She's not sure that she wants to give up her brother to anyone, she says, and she doesn t want to be in a position where she has to give him up to anyone.
