The next morning, Miss Mesa wakes up and tells the doctor that she's glad that the holy water has helped her forget her worries. The doctor tells her that it's a trial product, but that she should keep taking it for as long as she needs it. He says that he'll try to figure out a way to make the antidote work for him. He also says that they haven't seen each other for a long time, so they can thank each other "in many ways" . He tells her to find someone else to talk to, but she says that the doctor is her "attending doctor" , so she can't stay around with him. She tells him to go to the castle and find the other members of the family who have escaped. She also tells him that she once was an heiress to the family, just like Will. She's been imprisoned because no one in the family thinks that she is qualified to inherit the castle. She asks the doctor if there's anyone else who hasn't escaped, and the doctor says that there are. He then says that she would be a good candidate to talk with him, since he's old friends with her. Miss Micallef, meanwhile, is locked up in the castle because none of Will's family thinks she is "qualified" as an heiress. She doesn't know why Will went to see the doctor, and she'd like to know why he went to the doctor. She says that if she could talk to him, he'd talk to her.
