In this chapter, we are told that the plot of the story is "purely fictitious" and that no resemblance is made between the events of this story and those of real life. For example, we learn that Mr. Fart is nervous that his son is staring at him and that he thinks that his wife is prettier than her son. He tells his son to ignore his mother and his son, and he tells his wife that she is the best looking woman in the world. He also tells her that he has heard all about her from his wife, and now he has work to do in the domestic market, so he has come to see her too. He says that it is their anniversary two days hence, so they will take him and her to Europe for a vacation, and that they will have a family portrait with them. He adds that he will not bother his wife on her anniversary, as he has plans of his own. Mrs. Rautenegger says that her son has grown up, and she says that he does not need her anymore. She says that the hug between her son and her son is useful, as it makes her son look more attentive to her. She also says that she and her husband are better off than their son's, because theirs is better in every way. She adds that she has booked a trip to Japan with her son the next day, and they will all be alone together.
