In this chapter, we meet the protagonist, a police officer named Kota. He's been assigned to the public safety division in the city of oto , where he works a double shift. We learn that he's a classmate and roommate of the protagonist's at the police academy, and that the protagonist and his wife have two younger sisters. When the protagonist receives a message from his wife saying that she's off her shift, he realizes that his wife isn't mad at him, but that she doesn't seem to be angry at all. He tells his wife that he can still send her a message, but he can't get her to answer his message. He asks his wife why she'd be so angry, and she says that it's just because she was busy the day before. He wonders if she was having an affair with another boy friend, or maybe she was in some kind of bola , or whatever. The protagonist says that he knows that the police officer, who he thinks is the one who's in love with his wife, has been hanging out with another woman, and he thinks that the other woman is probably a friend of his wife's. The police officer says that the doctor has been trying to get his pupil to chill out, but the protagonist thinks that's because the doctor is too busy with his own career to be thinking about girls. He also says that when his wife gets angry, he has been eating and sleeping too much. He thinks that she has been drinking, too much, too fast, too drunk. He says that if he had to do it all over again, he'd do it right away.
