About This Chapter
The chapter opens with a description of the landscape behind the house. The narrator tells us that he never heard from Sagano again, and that she's been busy with her hair. He says that he was looking for a place to smoke, and ended up at a place where he could smoke and break. He's sorry that he didn't smoke there, but he's glad that he did, because it's so far away from the house that he couldn't have been smoking there. He also tells the narrator that he saw a "sapping energy" in her husband's eyes, and he'd better brush it off with a brush. He apologizes for taking too long to explain everything, and says he'll take care of the groceries himself. He tells the story of how he used to feel like his whole world was "nothing but a hard ship" , but now he realizes that it isn't so hard after all. He thanks the narrator for sharing his "bur dens" with his wife, and tells her that she will "create many more happy messages" for her husband. He asks the narrator to hurry home, and the narrator tells him to hurry talk faster. He runs into a friend who's mad, and is sorry to see her. He wants to hug her, but she won't give him a kiss, so they'll have to get to bed. He promises to understand how her husband felt when he died.
