In this chapter, we learn that Yulan's mother hates birth parties, and she's not happy about the fact that his son is wearing a blue shirt. She's also upset that he's been flirting with a guy named Konstantin, who she thinks is a "trashy girl" . Konstantin tells Yulan that flirting with men is the only way he can earn money, and that he should stop acting like a "disrespectfully" towards his father. He also tells him that he can't "interfere with the life" that his father has built. He says that he trusts Yulan when he asks him to help him with his sister's case, and he hopes that she'll think of him in the same way.
