About This Chapter
"Poor Hei-chan" , the narrator tells us, is "in scars" . He's still angry with his mom, but he's grown a lot since he was a kid. He asks if his mom's "ex-boy friend" did the same thing to him, and the narrator points out that his dad has never hit him, but that he still hates him. He tells the narrator that he loves his mom "too much" to leave, and that's why he doesn't want to go back to school. He wants to go to a bar with his "big brother," but he can't bring himself to leave his mom alone. He says that he and his brother are going to "sleep tonight" because they're "out of money," and that they need to go "to a bar !" . The narrator tells him that his mom is "trash," and he wishes that he were a "sixteen-year-old" instead of her "rat." He says he wishes he could feel warm and safe around his big brother, and he asks if he could go to school if he didn't have to. He also says that if he did, he'd have to drop out of school because he wants to be a burden to his mom. Aww, he says, he has been looking for him all this time, and now he has to find him and bring his mom back to him. Ooh, she's the "benefit of the doubt," so he won't be giving up until he and her are "under stand each other."
