In this chapter, the wolf tells his friend, Hiroyuki, that there are no decent men among him. Hiroyuki tells the wolf that his brother, Kudo, has a secret dream that he will earn enough money so that he can straighten his teeth. The wolf tells Hiroyuki not to worry, because he will do whatever he wants to do. He tells him that he has come to pick up his mother, and Hiroyuki says that he cannot go home because he has to walk to get his mother. He says that his mother is about as young as he is, and that this is the first time he's seen her since he was 15. He asks Hiroyuki to tell him when he'll be going fishing, and he tells him to tell Hiroyuki that he'd like to see him later. When Hiroyuki asks what's going on, he says that Hiroyuki is dropping out of the whole thing. He doesn't want to talk to anyone, and says that if he had trusted his first instinct, he would have left Hiroyuki alone.
