In this chapter, the narrator tells us about the senior high school girls' tennis tournament. He tells us that one of the girls, Osamu, is the best player in the tournament, but he's not in the same league as the other girls. He says that Osamu is in love with another girl, Arataa, who is also a senior at the same school. The narrator tells the girls that they have to tell the girls' president, Shinobu, that they're going to have to "cool off" after the tournament. The girls all agree that it's a good idea to do so. The president says that he wants the girls to keep playing tennis even if they don't have anything to do with it. He also says that the girls should never stop playing tennis if they can't do anything with it, even if it isn't something they can do. He wants them to play five seconds at a time every time they go on the court. He adds that he'd like to beat the girls if they keep playing too much. He's going to try to get closer to the girls next time they play tennis.
