The chapter opens with a soliloquy by Tommo, in which he laments the fact that he will be leaving the Karuta club at the end of the year. He asks Tommo to join him in the next world, and Tommo agrees. Tommo asks if Tommo has left the club, and when Tommo says that he has, Tommo tells him that it has become a club that knows how to play the new rules of the game, and that he asks that Tommo join him.
