In this short scene, Hiroshi asks his mother what she thinks about Chihaya. She replies that she thinks Chihaya is doing well in the prelims of the high school girls' karuta tournament. Hiroshi says that he was moved by the match, and that he thinks it's because he has to be serious with Chihaya about the match. He also says that because of this, he thinks that Chihaya lost the first half of the tournament. He tells his mother that he doesn't think Chihaya had anything to do with the match because he didn't tell her that she had something to do. He says that if he had a new weapon, it would be a hakama, or a sword. He adds that his mother sent him a lot of gifts, including a model of the hakama. He feels bad that he hasn't been paying attention to her lately.
